I just took this pic at the Target at Potomac Yards - Alexandria, VA

I love it. HD Radio is such a joke.

Let's hope this monster doesn't manage to get itself forced into Satrad receviers!

It would be a joke if it wasn't being pushed by the government so hard, it's junk and doesn't work but the Alliance and ibiquity must be lining the right pockets as any other non wanted, non selling piece of krap like this would have been long gone. If this is forced into Satrad receivers it will kill them as HD smells worse than a skunk at a party, Satellite is struggling now why would you want to saddle it with a lead balloon like HD? Sink, glug, glug, glug.

Actually, it works pretty well. I've driven through the Harrisburg PA area a few times in the last month or so listening to the adult alternative channel on WRBT 94.9-HD2. It was approximately 60 minutes of listening time (driving at highway speeds) from the time I began to receive a stable digital signal until the signal started dropping out. I was pretty pleased with the experience. Now all the radio companies need to do is get more HD2 and HD3 channels on the air and really fill some niches and market format holes (all 90s music, all 40s/50s music, etc.)

Niche formats won’t work. Radio is a business about money and ratings. 40’s & 50’s formats won’t have a mass appeal audience like country or ac does. That’s why you don’t hear commercial stations broadcasting 40’s music. And virtually every format has already been done.

Satellite radio does work for niche formats because the business model is different where listeners pay for the service.

Content is a big problem for radio. And now owners are cutting back on exspenses and people. Radio is unlikely to invest in new creative content when nobody is listening to HD.

Most people already own 5 radios that work just fine, and see no reason to upgrade.
It’s not like AM/FM’s are going dark in 2009. And it’s not like the content is so great you can’t live without HD radio. It’s time to upgrade for what? To hear another jukebox with commercials and sweepers. No thanks!

Nice try though.. you sound like an HD shill..
